Delicates

Engaging domestic chores as my process to make these bumps went like this; I cut little pieces of gauze, then dipped them into a batter of fabric stiffener and ink, draped them over prepared molds, and put them on cookie sheets in the sun to bake. Once baked, I then trimmed the edges, and popped them off their molds, pinned them in place so they could be sewn by hand.

Delicates, referencing the materials used, brings many things to mind, one being something a woman washes separately. Though these delicate bumps are nearly weightless and need no washing, the use of repetitive modules create simple patterns while the gauzy fabric used is reminiscent of things kept in the top drawer of one’s lingerie chest.
